High winds close Cheyenne–Douglas portion of I-25 on Tuesday to light, high-profile vehicles - Casper, WY Oil City News

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — High winds in southeastern Wyoming on Tuesday are now impacting travel to certain vehicles.

On Tuesday, the Wyoming Department of Transportation closed the Cheyenne–Douglas stretch of Interstate 25 to light, high-profile vehicles due to gusting winds. A high wind warning is present in the affected areas until at least 6 p.m. Tuesday, per the National Weather Service in Cheyenne.

A crash has also been reported on I-25 southbound near the Dwyer Junction Rest Area outside of Wheatland, leaving the department to warn travelers to expect delays in and around the affected portion of the highway. Further details including the length of the delay are unknown at this time.

West winds are projected to blow at speeds between 30 and 40 mph with up to 60 mph gusts during the warning, the NWS said. A 42 mph wind to the west with a 51 mph gust was picked up by sensors in the area near Chugwater in Platte County at approximately 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
